2018-2019 Challenge Prizes

All teams who enter the Conrad Challenge are competing to be recognized as Pete Conrad Scholars, the Challenge’s top honor. One team in each category will receive this recognition based on their scores during the final round at the Conrad Innovation Summit (April 23-27, 2019 at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida). In addition to the title, student teams will receive the following prizes:

Conrad Challenge Traditional Categories:

Aerospace & Aviation | Cyber-Technology & Security | Energy & Environment | Health & Nutrition

  • A distinctive medallion and a Pete Conrad Scholar certificate from the Conrad Foundation

  • Dell Chromebook 2-in-1 for each team member to support the next steps in their entrepreneurial career, from our good friends at Dell

  • $15,000 per year scholarship to study disciplines in design, engineering and commerce (DEC) at Thomas Jefferson University

  • $15,000 per year scholarship to Clarkson University, for a total value of $60,000 over four years  

  • Opportunity to apply for pro-bono services from Arent Fox to support the patent process, valued at $10,000

  • Opportunity to apply for pro-bono services from Dentons to support the patent process, valued at $5,000

  • NEXUS will select one Pete Conrad Scholar team to attend their upcoming NEXUS summit in New York July 2019, all-expenses paid

  • A market research assessment from the Wisconsin Innovation Service Center (WISC) providing a detailed plan to continue product development, valued at $1,000

  • A 15% discount to attend a Camp BizSmart entrepreneur academy in Silicon Valley in Summer 2019. The value of this discount will be applied to the housing and tuition package, resulting in a special tuition rate of $3,697.50 for all Pete Conrad Scholars

  • Access to the Founders Space Online Startup Program which provides hundreds of pieces of content delivered daily over 3 months, including videos, business lessons and startup materials. These topics are designed to cover the most important concepts and information necessary for entrepreneurs launching and running their companies.

  • One-year associate membership to Sigma Xi, an international, multidisciplinary research society whose programs and activities promote the health of the scientific enterprise and honor scientific achievement

Smoke-Free World Category:

The Foundation for a Smoke-Free World will select one Pete Conrad Scholar team in each area:

  • India- All-expense paid trip to India to meet FSFW Grantee to further discuss solutions to end bidi consumption in the region

  • Malawi- All-expense paid trip to the Borlaug Dialogue - World Food Prize 2019 in Iowa, U.S.

  • United States- All-expense paid trip to Catania, Italy to meet FSFW Grantee who is creating the Center of Excellence on Harm Reduction

In addition, each Pete Conrad Scholar Team will receive the following:

SMART Technologies will select one Pete Conrad Scholar team who will receive an all-expense paid trip to the SMART Summit in Canada (Summer 2019).

In addition, each Pete Conrad Scholar Team will receive the following:

  • A distinctive medallion and a Pete Conrad Scholar certificate from the Conrad Foundation

  • $15,000 per year scholarship to study disciplines in design, engineering and commerce (DEC) at Thomas Jefferson University

Power Pitch Awards:

The Conrad Foundation will recognize one Finalist team in each category with the Power Pitch Award. This award recognizes the best on-stage presentation during the Conrad Innovation Summit. Recipients will receive a special commemorative trophy.

Additional Awards:

In collaboration with our sponsors and partners, the Foundation incorporates additional awards as we approach the Conrad Innovation Summit. Anticipated awards include: the America’s Navy Gemini Award, NASA Goddard Award, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Good Citizen Award and the Conrad Social Media Award.
